Stephen J. Babineau,
Conducting the Narragansett Community Band

Stephen Babineau has been a teacher of elementary band in the Narragansett Regional School District since 1971. He has been K-12 Music Program Director since 1985, and Fine Arts Director since 1994. He founded the Narragansett Community Band in 1985, and has directed all but one of it's concerts thus far.

He earned a Bachelor of Music (1971) and Master of Music (1975) degrees from Boston University, where he studied trumpet with Roger Voisin and John Coffey, string pedagogy with George Bornoff, and composition with Hugo Norden. He earned a C.A.G.S. from Worcester State College in 1992. His research project for that degree is entitled "A Case For School Sponsorship Of Community Bands: Pro And Con", with the Narragansett Community Band as test group.

He currently plays trumpet in the Boston University Alumni Concert Band, and the Greater Gardner Community Band. He is the President/Music Director of the Patrick S. Gilmore Society, and has been a conductor of that group's Massachusetts All-State Community Band. Steve Babineau can be reached c/o
